Hahdough is San Francisco's only authentic German bakery, founded by chef and owner Ha Do. Born in Vietnam and raised in Germany, Ha Do moved to San Francisco over a decade ago with a dream of opening a bakery that brought the traditional cakes and pastries of her German upbringing to the city. After building a devoted following at farmers' markets, she opened her first storefront on Fell Street in March 2020. Her Berliner donuts — seasonal jam and custard-filled, fried in sunflower seed oil for a light, fluffy texture, and topped with fine powdered sugar — are ranked by German expats as some of the most authentic outside of Deutschland. The bakery also features stunning Black Forest cakes, tortes, and pretzels.
