Wickiup Junction in La Pine is a legendary roadside stop where supersized handmade donuts defy belief. Baker Sarah Maurer arrives at 2:30 each morning to begin the lengthy proofing process, adjusting for humidity and temperature to achieve maximum rise. By 6am, the display fills with apple fritters and cinnamon rolls the size of dinner plates, bear claws, and donut rings big enough for two. The bacon maple bars are the star — Maurer drops hot grilled bacon bits directly into the maple glaze, melting into the topping. A must-stop for anyone heading to Crater Lake.
